I’m Thinking of the Smart Car

November 18th, 2008 · 1 Comment · Going Green

My neighbor has one and now I can’t stop looking out my home office window and thinking how cute it is!
In addition to good looks, the Smart Car boast a low price tag — the basic model starts at around $12,000 — and a tiny appetite for fuel. It’s a veritable gas sipper! When I calculate the savings in gas, it would be real money back in my pocket. Not to mention, the neighbors would love seeing another cute car on the block!

What do you think about the Smart Car?
I’d love to hear from other owners. Is it comfortable? Does it have a radio? Does it need to be walked like a dog?

Feel free to comment on this energy-saving car that seems to be taking the country by storm.

The smart car certainly is distinctive, and if you do all city driving the small size can’t be beat. However, I have heard on the highway it isn’t so great, it gets blown around a bit by the wind coming off other cars. Plus, I don’t think it has been around long enough to get a good idea of its reliability.

If you do Highway driving, you could consider the Toyota Yaris, starts around 12k gets 29/36 mpg or the Honda Fit at $15,300 gets 28/35mpg.

Then of course their are the hybrids. You have to do a lot of driving to make up for the extra cost, but the Prius gets 48/45mpg and the Civic Hybrid gets 40/45mpg

I think most people who want a small fuel efficient car will do well with the smart car if they do all city driving or the Yaris if the do any amount of highway driving.
